Little Moments. Big Magic.™

Parents As Partners

Parents and guardians are an integral part of the Big Brothers & Sisters match at every step of the process. Not only will you provide information about your child’s strengths and needs, but you’ll also approve the selection of the Big Brother or Big Sister.

Once the match is made, parents remain closely involved in several key ways, including:

  • Approving match activities and supporting your child’s involvement
  • Asking your child questions about the match meetings, and reporting any concerns to the agency staff
  • Regularly reporting back to the agency about your child’s progress and milestones in the match relationship – Big Brothers & Sisters will contact you regularly, but we welcome your feedback at any time

Local Funding Received

Big Brothers & Sisters of Portage County recently received funding from several local sources. The Portage County Insurance Association donated $500 to help sponsor our Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Bowling Party. The Deluxe Corporation Foundation made a $3600 donation for computer updates. The Sisler McFawn Foundation granted a request for $7000 to fund eight matches for one year and an anonymous Portage County company donated $1500 to be used for volunteer recruitment and interviewing.

Big Brothers & Sisters relies on local companies, foundations and community individuals to provide the funds that are necessary to help children realize their potential and build their futures. Big Brothers & Sisters nurtures children and strengthens communities. And we couldn't do any of it without support from you!  Thank you!
