Little Moments. Big Magic.™

About Us

Big Brothers & Sisters of Portage County has been serving the children in our community since 1977, when the program was started as part of Kent Social Services.  In 1980, we incorporated and became our own agency. since the beginning it has been our mission to develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people.

Our Mentoring Programs Work

National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brother and Big Sister mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. By participating in our youth mentoring programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • More confident in their schoolwork performance
  • Able to get along better with their families
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school
