About Us
Big Brothers & Sisters of Portage County has been serving the children in our community since 1977, when the program was started as part of Kent Social Services. In 1980, we incorporated and became our own agency. since the beginning it has been our mission to develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people.
Our Mentoring Programs Work
National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brother and Big Sister mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. By participating in our youth mentoring programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:
Bowl for Kids' Sake 2012
Bowl for Kids' Sake 2012 is happening on Saturday,
March 10, at Kent Lanes. Join us for fun, food and bowling
and help support our One-to-One mentoring program in
Portage County!

Local Funding Received
Big Brothers & Sisters of Portage County recently received funding from several local sources. The Portage County Insurance Association donated $500 to help sponsor our Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Bowling Party. The Deluxe Corporation Foundation made a $3600 donation for computer updates. The Sisler McFawn Foundation granted a request for $7000 to fund eight matches for one year and an anonymous Portage County company donated $1500 to be used for volunteer recruitment and interviewing.
Big Brothers & Sisters relies on local companies, foundations and community individuals to provide the funds that are necessary to help children realize their potential and build their futures.
